A Bigger Heart
A young girl is smiling at me from a picture on my desk. She is a child sponsored by me from the Philippines(菲律宾).
Even though I have never met her in person, she has founded a special place in my heart.
It doesn't cost me much to help her, about a dollar a day.
But the joy of helping her is beyond money. It connects me to her, to life, and to love.
I can still remember the first time that I decided to help a child overseas.
It was many years ago. I was only a teenager myself and for the first time in my life had a little extra money each month.
There was a little boy named Billy. He was always helpful and caring towards others. One day, he saw a girl named Emily fall off her bike and get hurt. Billy immediately ran over to her and asked if she was okay. Emily said she was fine, but Billy could see she was crying.
Billy decided to take Emily home, as he knew she had no one else to look after her. He helped her get back on her bike and cycled with her to her house. At her house, Emily's mother thanked Billy for his kindness and help.
That night, Billy wrote in his diary, "Today, I helped Emily get home when she fell off her bike. She was crying, but I knew I had to help her because no one else was around. I am happy I could help her, and I know she is safe at home now."
This story shows the importance of being caring and helpful to others, as Billy showed his love and奉献to Emily by helping her when she needed it the most.
